Visible Memories - The Salt Rock

Imaginary figures of people from other times were painted on the streets of the port zone of Rio de Janeiro, in a human scale, as if there had been a mix between the everyday life of the past with the present one. At first, I chose to act on such zone due to its history. The port zone was not very visited or well known by most of the city’s inhabitants, despite its rich history as part of the ancient slave port and its contributions to the beginning of samba, but recently with the reforms for the Olympic Games of 2016, the area has become a symbol of the transformation of Rio de Janeiro in this century. I started to paint in the region in 2010, at first all by myself, as part of my research scholarship. Back then I produced imaginary figures of people from other times were painted on the streets of the port zone of Rio de Janeiro, in a human scale, as if there had been a mix between the everyday life of the past with the present one. I continued to make projects in the area, had a studio there for more than 2 years, and ended u getting involved with social activists and black heritage.
